Banquet for bees 2020 – 2022
Banquet for Bees immerses audiences into landscape, a beehive and into the private lives of bees. A group of humans gradually transforms into a hive community, and the performance recreates bee life in ways that are humorous, sensual and factual. Banquet for Bees is the result of a long form collaboration between Secret Hotel, Denmark and Triage Live Art Collective, Australia. Banquet for Bees explores the world of pollination, plants, and honeymaking from a bee’s perspective. Banquet for Bees has been presented in Denmark at APRIL Festival, Copenhagen:STAGE, Jord Arts Festival, Passage Festival, Momentum, Ebeltoft Festival, and Pro Progressione Festival Hungary.

The audience participates in Banquet for Bees as both spectators and performers in a fascinating way which takes place in the open air. … A very special nature-immersive atmosphere envelops you when you sit in the grass and listen to Swedish performer Charlotta Grimfjord Cederblad’s story about how, as a child, she watched her father work as a beekeeper from behind the windows of the house. Wearing baggy pants, we ourselves became a kind of worker bee, who, after being tuned in with a buzzing straw beehive over our heads, were given various bee jobs and learned something about swarm intelligence. Fun to be sent out as scout bees with huge magnifiers as insect eyes in search of flowers to suck nectar from. Just as the bees dance to signal to the hive where the tempting flowers are, we were too were tasked with performing a bee dance to signal the grand banquet finale around the long table.
